(Brussels, 13 October 2017) Speaking at the Summit for equal quality of products for all in Bratislava, FoodDrinkEurope Director General, Mella Frewen, welcomed the commitment made by Commissioner Jourová to organise an inclusive dialogue at EU and national level between authorities, consumer representatives and industry stakeholders to discuss the alleged 'dual quality' of food in Europe.
“The sooner the dialogue starts, the better. Gaining and maintaining consumer trust is our core value; our industry’s success is based on treating all consumers equally”, explained Mella Frewen. “It is important to agree to a joint and objective understanding of the facts, evidence and scope of the issue. We look forward to cooperating with the European Joint Research Centre to help develop a harmonised methodology to assess the alleged problem. Our companies are very mindful of their reputation, they do everything in their power to guarantee a consistently high quality, in line with their brands’ promise. This is why we definitely want to address the concerns of consumers, politicians and companies in an open dialogue."
